Odalis Lopez, ASU student and 2022 Mesa High graduate, won a STEM scholarship and plans to pursue a career as a neurosurgeon. This included questions about school funding, teacher recruitment and retention, improving student outcomes, helping more students go to college, and ensuring that young children have opportunities to learn. The students, all Education Forward Arizona scholars, spent roughly 30 minutes with each of the candidates asking them a variety of questions about education. Education Forward Arizona created, a nonpartisan website featuring student-led interviews with candidates running for Governor and Superintendent of Public Instruction.
